If you’re reading this and considering a guide for Kili, look no further….I hired Kilimanjaro Vikings adventures for my Kilimanjaro climb. Charlie Richard was my guide and from my first interaction with him, it was clear that Charlie is a dedicated professional. I only started planning my Kili adventure about 1 month before my travel date and Charlie was very responsive to my questions. It can be daunting booking an overseas adventure of this cost and there are many choices for guides in Tanzania. But rest assured that if you climb with Charlie, you will get a fair price and be in the best hands. Charlie and his driver waited for me at Kilimanjaro airport at 2:30am after my flight from Nairobi was delayed 4 hours after my 30 hours of travel. Can you ask for better service? I climbed the Machame route with Charlie and was the only person in my group. I was a little concerned spending 6 days hiking solo with one guide and no group, but Charlie is entertaining enough to keep you laughing the whole way. At no time did I feel gaps or awkward pauses in our conversation. Furthermore, Charlie is an excellent mountaineer and has over a decade guiding and climbing Kili. I arrived in good cardio shape and was not afraid of high altitude mountaineering, but Charlie offered some key suggestions that made my summit night enjoyable and also had me arriving as one of the first few people up on top for sunrise, even though we departed as the last group. I think it demonstrates Charlie’s experience to be able to tailor the climb to your ability so you have maximum success and enjoyment.

I also hired Charlie to book a safari to Tarangire and Ngorongoro Crater parks after my Kili climb. Because of his Kili schedule, he contracted 3rd party safari guides and drivers to ferry me from Moshi to the parks and back. The safari guides were great and I enjoyed my entire experience using Kili Vikings. Charlie is my brother from another mother!
